An Exit Strategy for Clutter

September 16, 2011

The article is called Clutter: What if it Hurts to Let Go? The author Christy Farr provides a clear and very real example of the emotions attached to letting go of ‘things’. Christy even includes a step-by-step process to help individuals create a practical exit strategy. Excellent read!

“The stuff is locked into the feelings and the feelings are locked into the stuff. It doesn’t matter from which side we break the lock. What matters is that we break it. When we have the courage to say, “I’m sick of being stuck,” and begin this process of releasing those things that no longer serve us, everything becomes possible….”

  1. That is a very powerful article – thank you for sharing it. I once worked with a client whose house was filled with mementos of his failed marriage and it was exciting to see the powerful effect it had on him when he agreed to get rid of them.

    • It sure is a powerful article. Thanks for sharing about your client experience – it makes sense if you think about it …if the emotions attached to an item are negative then it’s time to find a new home for those items. The first few steps can certainly be daunting but the positive and powerful effects, like you mentioned, surpass the inhibitions so quickly. I must say i feel privileged as professional organizer to witness such incredible transformations in our clients personal and professional lives. Thanks again for your comment Janet!
